Last week FedEx Express in Asheville quietly fired the majority of their employees come February. This is part of a nationwide mass firing of FedEx employees.

FedEx is in the process of closing FedEx Express and moving to having only FedEx Ground. Ground doesn’t have employees, all of their workers are contractors. This will be called FedEx One. On paper, this probably looks great as it certainly saves a fortune. In reality, it’s completely dismantling the system people rely on for First Overnights and Regular Overnights. We have already experienced significant shipping delays with FedEx Express and Ground as a result of this and expect many more going forward.

We are working to find the best options for our customers and members. Most of our shipping is not overnight, but, if you rely on that service, you should consider your options. In the near term, overnight or first overnight probably won’t even be an option.
